Without official updates or ports of the game, the community’s brightest minds have been forced to take matters into their own hands revolutionizing the ancient platform-fighter through mods, emulation and user-generated content. Melee’s diehard fans continue to host their own grassroots tournaments and fund their prize pools without help from Nintendo. As the game approaches its 20th anniversary, developer support is still nowhere to be found, but that hasn’t stopped its players from keeping it alive. Then, in reply to an enquiring user, the team posted: “Go to bed, it’s still a fair bit away!” On the mod’s official Facebook page, the following message was posted: “Stayed up late? We can’t give you 3.5 yet, but we know something else we know that you would really like”. It appears the update is still on track for release sometime today, but it may be a few more hours until you can grab it.
